How We Work

Django & Python development model · Amsterdam

ONE MONTHLY FEE. EVERYTHING INCLUDED.

No hourly billing. No scope arguments. No surprise invoices at the end of a sprint.

We stopped billing by the hour years ago — not because it was complicated, but because it was the wrong incentive for both sides.

The DWS Monthly Development Model

The Model

A monthly partnership. Not a project.

When you pay by the hour, you spend your energy watching costs instead of making product decisions. We spend our energy tracking time instead of building things.

A fixed monthly fee changes that. You know what you are spending. We know the relationship runs on outcomes, not hours logged. Business idea in, value for happy customers out.

As we say internally: geen verrassingen voor de klant, geen verrassingen voor ons. No surprises for the client, no surprises for us.

What's included

  • Development and code review
  • Architecture decisions
  • QA and testing
  • Product thinking and proactive advice
  • Real-time monitoring (Sentry)
  • Security patching, before you ask for it
  • Django version upgrades

How AI Has Changed Django Development at DWS

What AI Changed

AI coding agents have changed what we can deliver in a month. The price has not.

Django Web Studio has been using AI in development since GPT-3 — long before it was a marketing claim. We use it to generate code, write tests, and move through repetitive work at a pace that used to require more people. Our team works at least three times faster than it did two years ago.

That speed belongs to you. It shows up in what we deliver each month — not in a higher monthly fee for the same relationship. We could easily charge three times more. We have a better idea: keep the model fixed and put the gain into your product.

We are still responsible for everything that ships. AI generates code. The team reviews it, tests it, and owns the result. There is a difference between knowing how to use a tool and knowing whether the output is correct. The second skill is not being automated.

What a Monthly Django Development Cycle Looks Like

What a Month Looks Like

The rhythm is simple.

Week One

We review what shipped last month, talk through what worked and what didn’t, and agree what we are building next. This is where priorities get set — by you, informed by us.

During the Month

We build, test, and check in with you as decisions come up. No radio silence. If something changes — a scope question, a security issue, a better approach — you hear about it before it becomes a problem.

End of Month

We ship what we agreed. We write up what we learned. We come back to Week One with a clearer picture of what the product needs next. The relationship improves with every cycle.

This repeats. The product gets better every month.

What DWS Needs from Clients to Work Effectively

What We Need From You

We work best when you’re close to the product.

Access. To the product, the infrastructure, and the people who know how the business works. We cannot make good decisions at a distance.

Decisions. When we bring you a choice, we need an answer. Waiting on feedback is the one thing that actually slows a monthly model down.

Openness. We will sometimes show you that what you asked for is not the only option. We would rather surface a better approach early than build the wrong thing and find out at the end of the month.

That is the whole model. We trust our clients and they trust us.

What DWS Does Not Do

What We Don’t Do

We are not the right fit for every kind of work.

We don’t take on clients whose revenue doesn’t depend on their digital product. If your site going down for a day would not cost you anything, we’re probably not the right fit.

We also don’t write proposals for products we haven’t talked about yet. A 30-minute call is where it starts. If there’s a fit, we’ll both know.

Does this model work for your product?

A 30-minute call is enough to find out. We look at your product, your situation, and whether the monthly model is the right fit. No pitch. Just an honest conversation.
